CycleFail

There have been rumors floating around that a band called Cycle Fail may be forming from the remains of the former band Fishing for Grable. No band members could be reached for questioning, but the audio clip and photos have leaked onto the internet…

Stones, Wings, Skittles and Things

Ya’ll been watching the Detroit Red Wings dominate lately? It’s a pretty site, that’s for sure. 2008 may very well end up being another title year for Hockeytown. Hats off to the Campbell Bowl winners (NHL Western Conference Champs) and best of luck in the Stanley Cup Finals starting this Saturday.

The Detroit Pistons unfortunately lost Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals last night to the Boston Celtics. I would say we played well, other than in the 3rd quarter. Hopefully we can steal a win in Game 2 and bring it back home tied up 1-1. Worst case scenario would be to lose Game 2 and have to desperately defend home court with a 2-game disadvantage. It’s O.K. though. We have a veteran ball club, they have been in positions like this before. Nothing to worry about. Gotta come out with some major intensity in Game 2.

Who likes metal? I sure do. Who wants to bring back some thrash metal with me? Let me know. RAWRR! FUCK YEA!

So the Michigan Vendors Association stopped by my office earlier today, and dropped off a HUGE complimentary box of candy. I’ve eaten 3 bags of Skittles and my stomach is hurting, but they are so fucking good! Thanks MVA!

I bet no one reads this, so FUCK YOU BITCHES!

Nashville, TN

Okay, so I went to Nashville this past weekend with my sister Kelly, visiting my cousin Dawn who does cancer research at Vanderbilt (G.bomb, Fopat, Parr and I played some songs at her party for finishing her Phd. at Wayne State about four years ago). Anyway, I recommend checking out downtown Nashville to anyone who has not been there–it is amazing!

I am not a big country music fan, which is what I was expecting it to be–pure country. Turns out that it’s ALL kinds of music going on in that town. Blues, jazz, billyrockers, swing, folk, straight rock and of course, country. Every single bar I went into had live music, and no cover. Some bars had TWO bands playing–one in the back room, and one up front. We went into this one bar called the Bluegrass Inn, the band playing was straight out of the ’50s, and I mean WOW, could they rock. It was like a swing/punk sound, with a stand-up bass, and a ‘greaser’ for the lead singer! All kinds of greasers in there, tatoo sleaves, piercings, girls with long skirts and crazy bangs in their hair. Haha, I had so much fun at this bar.

I also went to a place call the Bluebird Cafe…check it out online if you get a chance. This place is SUPER famous for having singer/songwriters come thru and perform before they were famous. Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, amongst others. What was so cool is the people we saw perform have all had a #1 hit, and one guy in particular, Bill LaBounty, was absolutely amazing. I was truly inspired by his style and the mood he conveyed with his songs. This guy has like 10 #1 hits he has written for other stars. He plays piano and sings, and is not a typical country sound, more blues/funk/almost indie sounding. I loved it!

Downtown there are so many bars, and they are all located within a couple blocks vicinity of each other. Like I said, each one has live music, and one the corners in the street they have a wire-feed to huge black speakers so you can hear the bands playing inside. SO COOL! There are tons of people on the streets playing guitar/singing, you know, trying to get discovered. Everyone down there is nice and laid back. The beer is not crazy expensive like Chicago. Like I said, NO COVERS! I would move down there if I could.

So, if you haven’t been to Nashville, and would like to check it out, I’m planning on going back this summer for another weekend trip–maybe even staying in a hotel downtown. Call me if anyone is interested. tRu
